“What is the need for speed?”

Illegal street racing in Arizona

Diana Lopez

The cool fast cars, groups of people, adrenaline received from the cars racing up and down the streets seems to been seen only in movies like in the famous Fast and Furious, right? Well it has been seen in many cities in hidden locations including Phoenix, Arizona.

The days the car meet events are usually held are on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday late nights. Many people may agree the groups of people showing off their cars may sound like fun and a chill moment with friends. Until the drivers make their way to busy main streets and freeways putting themselves and many innocent people’s lives in danger by racing. Illegal street racing is a horrible act that needs to be controlled.

The Charger seen above is a example of one of the horrible accidents that result from racing. Luckily no one was injured.

I have had the chance to ask the driver of the car above and three students what their opinion of illegal street racing was, here was there response…

-If you could go back in time to the day and crashed and the days before, would you change your choices you made about racing?

“Yes, I would because I realized the danger I put myself and other people in.” Marco Rodriguez
