Lake or Flood?

Angela Fesler

On the morning of October 2nd, 2018, heavy rains left over from hurricane Rosa swept over Arizona. Serious flooding was an effect of these heavy rains. Many people across Arizona experienced damage and flooding. Some schools even closed due to the flooding. At Westridge Baptist Church where I live, we experience some rain. At first we thought little of it. My grandma had said, “Oh, a little rain can’t hurt.” But, what we got was far from a “little rain”. The field in between the Church, Fellowship building, and our trailer was filled with water. This however, is the least of our worries. The front field is never used so no one really cared. So as time passes and more rain comes down, my brother and I go outside to play in the rain. We head out back to the main field behind all the buildings. Unfortunately, neither of us remember having a lake, yet there was one waiting for us instead of the open field we are used to. All the rain flooded our huge back field causing a lake to form. So my brother, being the ten year old he is, ran and jump in. He went for a swim until our mother came out to get us. We were forced away from our newly form private lake. Sadly, This lake will be gone in a few weeks.
