The Future of Gaming Is Changing

The world of Video Games is a wide variety of alternate worlds where you (The Player) can control the main character of each and every one of those worlds. Sometimes in those worlds there is a feature that allows you to play with multiple people at once, from just you and a buddy on the same couch to you versus 99 other people all across the world and this is called multiplayer.

Multiplayer is a huge thing across the world from championships of the best players in the world to Youtubers (or yourself) playing with their best friends to show their enjoyment of a certain multiplayer game. Recently, a game that has dominated the multiplayer world is Fortnite and if you haven’t heard about this game already well you must be living under a rock but don’t worry I’ll give you the run down, Fortnite is a battle royal game pitting one hundred players against each other in different modes such as single (you versus everyone else), duos (you and a friend versus other groups of two), Squads (you and three other people versus other groups of four), and 50.v.50 (which as the name states two teams of 50 versus each other). I bring Fortnite up because it has brought millions of people together in the race to be the best player in the game and also has been one of the leading games to introduce cross-platform play which is a big deal as it allows players from different platforms of gaming systems to play with each other. This is a big deal as it brings more players together instead of causing a divide in players fighting for which system is the best one and you wouldn’t have to worry about losing friends if you switch systems either. Cross-play has been a really big issue in the community as Xbox, PC, mobile, and the Nintendo Switch have all opted to have cross-play to connect the communities of these systems but one company/system has refused to join the cross-play community and has been openly against the idea, Sony/PlayStation. But recently after talks between studios and companies PlayStation/Sony has finally decided to open up the gate to cross platform play and this is BIG news as this means finally all systems on the market with be able to play with one another! We can’t get our hopes up yet Sony/PlayStation have said that they are only opening up a beta for cross-play within Fortnite allowing PlayStation players to play with people on either the Switch ,the Xbox, on PC, or even Mobile! But it is still a beta as they have to still fix how this system would work as this is just the beginning and they would like to release this option up to a ton of other games in the future, a game that people really want this feature on is the new Black Ops 4 game coming out on October 12 as that game has the biggest community all across the board of systems and if PlayStation opts to have this feature it will actually change the future of gaming and how we perceive what system we would get and how we play with players all around the world. The future is now and it seems that PlayStation is finally joining in on all of the fun.
