On August 29th award winning author Ellen Hopkins visited SLHS to promote her new novel “Rumble”. She spoke with students in the lecture hall from Ms.  Adelina Franciotti and Ms. Given’s 5th period English and math classes who both won the Penny War contest hosted by Student Government.

During her visit she told students about how before she wrote novels for teens she wrote children’s books. Along with writing books for kids, she also wrote a novel for adults called “Collateral”. Most of her books are from her real life experiences.

What was your inspiration for your novels?

“For the first novel in the series my inspiration was my oldest daughter. Much like the main character my daughter got into some pretty bad things.”

Do you surround yourself with people that write?

“Yes, writers understand other writers.”
