Just be you
Teen Peer Pressure
January 23, 2015
Being a teenager in today’s society can have its pros and cons. We get pressured from our peers in many ways. From the way we dress, the actions we make, and the music we listen too.
The main issue is that we’ve lost who we are individually. Individuality is something that’s so important because it shows who you are. We’re so caught up on what others are doing we want the same. Being different is like being foreign; you don’t fit in with the crowd. Everyone is so mesmerized with being a part of the crowd, that it’s causing people to change, to lose themselves, their individuality.
The pressure mostly comes from our peers, because if you don’t follow them you get divided from the group, left out and miss everything. Not being accepted in a group with friends is something everyone fears. We all want to fit in and be accepted by others so by changing ourselves, we get accepted by others.
Change isn’t a bad thing, because it’s good to change. However, if you’re changing for others that’s a different story. You should never have to change yourself, and who you are for others; you should be accepted and appreciated by them for being you. If you change you will never accept the person you truly are and the person you are meant to be.
I personally think society has had an impact on myself. At times I catch myself listening to certain music because of the people I am constantly around. It can vary from Mexican, R&B, Hip Hop, Indie, and Alternative music. One aspect of me that hasn’t changed is my sense of style that is one thing society has not had an impact on me.
I try not to let society control my life because I truly like the young man I’ve become. Everyone should be proud of the person they’ve become and the person their parents raised.
