On January 18, 2015 the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts played in the AFC championship game. There have been many rumors of the Patriots players “intentionally” deflating the footballs. If proven true, the team will be fined.

According to ESPN , Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, popular for his famous “Gronk Spike,” says he “Doesn’t think this is necessary”.

The NFL found that 11 of 12 of the Patriots footballs were underinflated by 2 pounds. An NFL footballs air pressure is set between 12.5-13.5 pounds per square inch. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick says that he had no knowledge of the deflating situation until Monday morning after the game. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady had 24 footballs inspected by NFL officials before the AFC Championship game and says that he didn’t feel a difference in the footballs from the first half to the second.

Brady announced that he does not alter the ball in any way and feels like he has abided by the NFL rules and would never break them. Even though no one may have tempered with the footballs, the Indianapolis Colts have had concerns about the underinflated footballs during the regular season before the incident had even happened.
