Women stereotypes in today’s society

Like A Girl

Elicia Lueraharris, Reporter,

When we look back at the early 1900’s the ideal women was a house wife, who cooked, cleaned, and cared for their children, while the men earned a living. However take a look at today and you can see just how girls and women around the world have changed the game completely, and have totally out grown the stereotypes.

Here at Sierra Linda there is a big population of Hispanic, Mexican/American girls, and one well know stereotype chained to the culture is that women are to stay home, cook, clean and watch their children. They are not supposed to go to college, or get a job, because their job is in the house.

Yet if you haven’t noticed already, that image is taking a turn for the better. Women empowerment around the world has risen like no other, not just in the Hispanic culture but cultures all over the world. Take Oprah Winfrey, Danica Patrick, Mo’ne Davis, and even Selena Gomez for example.

One thing all these girls have in common? Influence on women across the world. Empowering women and females in today’s youth seems to be a hot topic. Adolescents and young girls are too busy idolizing and wanting to be like their favorite pop star and actress who give them a false sense on reality, it causes change in their character, looks and creates self-doubt. They want to be the stereo typical size 0, or wear less clothing for a guy, or want to do their make up because they don’t think their attractive.

But take these 4 women out of the many around the world making a change, helping young girls around the world view themselves as beautiful, something more.
