The varsity football team played Copper Canyon High School on Friday August 28 blowing them out in front of their home crowd 63-38.

The Bulldogs started off the game strong scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter to take an early 14-8 lead. In the second quarter, under new defensive coordinator Steve Reeser, the Bulldogs played lights out defense preventing the Aztecs from scoring.

Starting safety Dominic Ruelas, who is also starting quarterback, had two interceptions on defense to cut the Aztecs offensive drives short.

Head Coach Ross Crow said “I thought the effort was great, they kept the foot on the pedal the entire game and I like that. There was no quit.”

In the second quarter, the offense also did their job scoring two more times going into the half leading 28-8. After halftime the Bulldogs came out ready to finish the game like they started it. They pounded the ball down the field and through the Aztecs defense.

The offensive line did a phenomenal job at opening up holes for senior running back Adam Gutierrez who rushed for 217 yards and 4 touchdowns.

“I was very satisfied with my performance mostly because we got the win, but I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the line blocking for me.” said Adam Gutierrez senior running back.

The Bulldogs next game is home against Barry Goldwater (0-2) on Friday September 4th at 7 pm.
