The varsity boys basketball team is improving every step of the way. The Bulldogs are currently ranked in 4th place in Section V Division II. The team is also undefeated at home winning 7 games in the Dawg Pound. Of those 7 wins 4 went towards their section record of 5-2.

The Bulldogs won 2 Section games at home in blowout fashion with scores of 60-49 over Willow Canyon on December 17th and 62-38 over Kellis on January 8th. The team battled against Section competitors Peoria on January 15th in their latest home game. It was a tough battle that the Bulldogs would go on to win 56-54 behind leading scorer Dontae Aguirre with 31 points on the night.

“It was a hard fought game. They are a tough team and I’m glad the way we responded. You gotta tip your cap to them the way they’re able to play physical defense and the way they’re able to shoot the ball. They made it tough for us and somehow we survived it.”, said head coach Joshua Haagensen on the Peoria win.

The team has been on the road since and has lost 3 games. One was a close contest against Section rival Shadow Ridge 51-50. The Bulldogs battled Section competitors Valley Vista on January 26th in the Dawg Pound winning 59-43.

Their next game is Friday, January 29th, as they travel to Avondale for a Section battle against the Fighting Lobos of La Joya who are ranked in 2nd place in Section V Division II. Tip off is at 7 p.m.
