Welcome to the Odyssey

Universatile presents the Flatbush Zombies

Vanessa Sowirka, Staff Writer

Many people claim that hip hop and rap is dead, but with rappers such as Flatbush Zombies, the game has only been revived. The Zombies, a Brooklyn based trio that consists of rappers Meechy Darko, Zombie Juice, and Erick “The Architect” Elliot, have undergone a massive breakthrough ever since their collaboration with ASAP Mob in 2012. From 2012 forward, they have put out various mix-tapes which lead to the long anticipated release of their first studio album, 3001: A Laced Odyssey on March 11, 2016. The album topped at No. 2 on both R&B/Hip Hop and Rap Albums and entered at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 on April 2nd. The album sold 28,000 copies in the first week alone.

To kick off their album release, Flatbush announced their 43 stop tour earlier in the year, which began in New Haven, CT on March 24th. On Sunday, May 1, 2016, the Marquee Theatre in Tempe, AZ had many colorful, tie dyed fans waiting in a line that stretched passed the Tempe Bridge, all in anticipation to see Flatbush Zombies live. Although doors opened at 7 PM and the show started at 8 PM, many fans had been waiting since 4 PM to secure their spot and get the best view possible.

Walking into the venue, the crowd was without a doubt ready to experience the night of their lives. Fans went wild when special guests Remy Banks and ASAP Twelvyy opened the show, but the night had just begun when the intro “The Odyssey” started playing. It was nothing but good energy, intense mosh pits, and day one fans singing word for word along with the Zombies.

The Odyssey comes to an end in New York, NY on May 25th. However, the European Odyssey has yet to begin. Flatbush will begin their European tour along with ASAP Twelvyy on September 12th in London, UK.
