On Tuesday November 30 the girls varsity basketball team played Ironwood High School in a home blow out non-conference game winning 67-37 to kick off the 2016-17 season.

“We played good and I like what I saw but there is still stuff we need to work on. There is always move to improve, but I’m looking forward to the season.” said head coach and  2 time Coach of the year Desirae Carranza.

In the first half the Lady Bulldogs where hitting shots left and right ending the first half with the score of 35 to 19.

“It feels great getting our first win, especially at home. The crowd was so alive and our team was full of energy. We knew coming into the game what we can bring.There’s things we need to work at to go all the way”, said junior Janae Gonzales.

The Bulldogs came out of the half time ready to play and not slowing down. The team scored a total of 24 points in the 3rd quarter lead by team captains, senior and future Division 1 San Diego state Aztecs signee Jenay Bojorquez, and junior Janae Gonzales , who each scored 12 points. The team ended the scoring blitz by adding 8 more points in the 4th and playing up tempo pressure defense the team only allowing the visiting Eagles to score only 18 points in the second half.

The team continued to stay hot on Thursday, December 1 by the plucking the Apollo Hawks wining 81-36. Janae Gonzales lead all scores with 20 points.

Lady Bulldogs next game is December 8th against the Sunnyslope Vikings at home at 7 p.m.
