“Imagine”

SLHS’s winter dance concert

On December 1st and 2nd, 2016 the SLHS Dance Department held it’s annual Winter Dance Concert themed “Imagine”. The event was in a packed cafeteria and started at 6 p.m. Tickets were sold for $5 at the door.

The show was performed by the members of the Dance Company, Advanced, Intermediate 1, and  Intermediate 2 students. The style of dances performed were Modern, Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Bollywood, Musical Theater, African, Middle Eastern, and other dance styles.

Mrs. Lewis (formally Ms. Helmer), SL dance teacher, directed and planned the event. Mrs. Lewis said, ” They did great. I thought the event ran smoothly. I had help from Mr. Keene’s (theater) class.”

“I chose the name because of the song by John Lennon. The song “Imagine” inspired me and because there is so much negativity in the world today.” Lewis said.

The students worked hard all semester. The students practice after school. The techniques they have learned have taught them self-discipline and more about other cultures music and dance styles.

“I think we did really good after all of the practice we did” said Junior, Michelle Castro.

Student choreographers were Diamond Cobbs, Devyn Carey, Briana Bridges, Vanessa Hernandez, Julian Stivers, Miyasia Dunlap Hammond, Azurae Yslava, Mirasia McClearn, Dayanne Barcelo, Brandee Moraga, Leslie Sandoval, Lesley Mendoza, Ahtziri Fiero, Leslie Valdez, KeAriawn Martin and Jermisha Kelly.

“I think we did great. We achieved what we practiced in class.”, said Senior, Kassandra Rodriguez.

Tech Support was Theater Club and their stage manager was Mariel Camacho.

“Thanks to all the teachers, staff, and students that supported the show” said Lewis.
