Summer was the year of multiple hit albums that everyone was waiting for. Many new artist breakout from a long awaited slumber making summer jams.

 

1. Jay Z – 4:44

 

The fourth studio album by Jay Z. Bringing is debut album after 5 year hiatus. 4:44 was an exclusive Tidal release but still managed to get double platinum. The album claimed to be a response to his, Beyoncé’s “Lemonade” which speaks conflict of him cheating and fatherhood.  4:44 marks one more significant art adding to his legacy.

 

 

2. Vince Staples- Big fish Theory

Vince Stables established a new sound for the youth with great studio quality. He Improved his sound and added more lyrical flows to his soft electronic beat from flume  The album consisted of the artist, Kilo Kish assisting him with vocals. The album took a different path from Prima Donna. Big Fish theory unfortunately didn’t come with a visual but still embarks a masterpiece representing North Long Beach.

3. Tyler, The Creator- Flower Boy

Tyler created an exceptional album featuring; Frank Ocean, Rex Orange County, Kali Uchis, Jaden Smith, and Lil Wayne. Flower Boy has delicate vibes from exposing his passionate side. His album topped the charts on the first week from the release date. Tyler has an divided fan base from his music and his comedic show “Loiter Squad”. The album is more freeing because it’s more of Tyler finding himself.

4. SZA- CTRL

CTRL reminisces on Sza past relationships focusing on flaws she made. Throughout the album she hinders on self confidence. She limits her capable abilities form insecurities. It gives perspectives of modern romance and a women’s comfort.

5. Calvin Harris- Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1

A decade since his last debut album, Calvin Harris made a successful album featuring many great new artists. He composes all of his sounds that provides disco mood. Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 has great summer hits.
