Police in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, had detained a fourteen-year old boy for dancing to the Macarena on Tuesday, August 22, 2017. His name and nationality were not given. They arrested him because he was “violating public morals”. The teen walked into the middle of a crosswalk where five cars were stopped at a traffic light, and started doing the Macarena. This happened more than a year ago but, the video of him doing this recently went viral on the internet. The police officers took him in for questioning even though it happened 13 months ago. They said he was disrupting traffic and putting himself and others in danger. The boy was eventually released without charge. However, he and his guardian were questioned about his “improper public behavior”. The ministry said, “They signed a written pledge that the teen will not engage in behavior that could endanger his life and the life of others again”. Some people called him a “legend” or a “hero”, and others agreed that what he did was dangerous. What do you think?
