Authentic with Aesthetic

Melany Lara, Digital Journalist

It’s very different being a teen in this century than any past ones as there is peer pressure from everywhere to do things like drugs, have sex and fit into a certain beauty standard that all the celebrities, like the Kardashian-Jenner Clan, that make kids think they have to look a certain way to be pretty. With all issues like this coming from every angle, the most interesting thing to me that seems important in a social media world is aesthetic. The definition of aesthetic is concerned with beauty or the appreciation of beauty. Now for some reason I became obsessed with having a certain aesthetic to the point where my clothes were literally consisting of just black and white clothes.

I don’t know what it is about aesthetic or if it’s just because it’s so visually pleasing that one picture that’s different bothers me very much. But aesthetic can help someone’s feed get noticed and receive many followers just by simply uploading picture that with catch a following with others who like a similar aesthetic. Now, aesthetic is all different and vary from everything, with an aesthetic about anything you can imagine. With the lingo kids use these days, they might say one or one’s photo looks “tumblr.” Tumblr is an older social media site that is still used today, but not as much as other sources of social media like Snapchat or Instagram. Some of my favorite aesthetics are the very pastel ones, mainly pastel yellow, with very floral decorations that are all around serene looking without doing much.

On the contrary, some people, like Aumonique, like 80’s vaporwave aesthetics, unlike Eleazar, who doesn’t have a specific aesthetic. Disclaimer, this is all just my personal opinion on aesthetic and should not be taken too personal. 🙂
