Karly-Marina Loaiza, better known as her stage name kali Uchis, is a Colombian-American singer, songwriter, record producer, music video director, and fashion designer. Karly-Marina Loaiza was born on July 17, 1993 in Alexandria, Virginia. She was given the nickname “Kali Uchis” by her father. Having moved around back and forth between the U.S and Colombia, where she spent some school time, Loaiza was raised in Alexandria, Virginia and graduated from T. C. Williams High School. She grew up playing saxophone and piano; she was introduced to music production and video editing while she was in high school and released her official debut mixtape ‘Drunken Babble’ on August 1, 2012. The mixtape was described as “genre-defying” and was noted for its influences from doo-wop, reggae and early-2000s R&B. In 2015, she released an EP that is titled “Por Vida” which consists of indie pop and soul music. In the ep she’s collaborated artist such as Tyler, the creator, Diplo, XXXCHANGE, and kaytranda. In 2018, she’s now released her debut album “Isolation”.
