Girls Basketball season looking up
Lady Bulldogs season preview
December 1, 2014
The bar was set high when the 2013-14 girls varsity basketball team ended their season 26-3, becoming the first team ever in the history of the school to win a team championship in Division II Section III.
“I expect to win, I expect us to be competitive and to finish in the top of our section” said Lady Bulldogs leader and AIA Divisoin II Section III Coach of the Year Desirae Carranza
The team captains and three returning starters are: sophomore Cheyenne Lee (#23), and junior twins Bryanna (#22) and Aryanna Hernandez (#20). They all plan to take their team to the play-offs and seek a state championship.
“I expect us to go farther than we did last year, and to have a better season.” said A.Hernandez
Carranza had a glimpse of how her team will perform during the season on Thursday November 20th at a scrimmage against Valley Vista. “We performed well but, there are things we need to improve on”.
According to Coach Carranza the things they need to improve on are better defense, communication, more effort and more motivation. But in the aspect of working as
a team they are not slacking it there “They’re mashing (working well together) well, and they share the ball.”
“As a captain I expect us to take action on the court and work together be professional and just
do what we usually do” said Lee
At the time of press the team was 2-0 winning 3 of the 4 games played in the Queen Creek Tournament. Their next game set for Monday December 8th against Kingman.
