Recently, Tolleson Union High School district held its annual Art Show at Estrella Mountain Community College, where students across the district submitted an art piece from different categories. Sierra Linda was fortunate to have Javier Palomares win first place for his water color photo.

“I thought I wasn’t good enough to enter the art show, I was very surprised” stated Palomares

Javier’s art piece was chosen by Mrs. Lapinsky, photography and ceramics teacher and Mrs. Dima, art teacher, who then submitted it to the district. Each school in the district submitted 30 art pieces.

“I’m very proud of Javier and I’m glad he has found his niche it painting!” stated Mrs. Lapinsky.

The art show took place in April, and is held annually. However Ms. Dima and Mrs. Lapinsky take a look at the art produced year round by their students and choose the top pieces to submit.

“I don’t know really why I chose to do this piece, but I like the way it came out” stated Palomares.

Javier was recognized at the award ceremony and presentation that took place at Estrella Mountain Community College, on April 16th, and his painting will be displayed in the Sierra Linda High School front office
