Sierra Linda varsity football battled Desert Edge on Friday October 2nd losing 65-34. Head coach Ross Crow on the loss said, “Very tough. They hung in strong, they played tough. This is a championship caliber team and I think we found out a little bit about ourselves in terms of that we can hang with anybody.”

The game started off competitive. Early on in the first quarter the Bulldogs kept up with the AIA Division III Scorpions who are ranked number 3.

Senior wide receiver Toshaun Thomas scored a receiving touchdown with 7:14 left in the quarter tying the game 7-7. The scorpions would answer back with a score of their own taking a 14-7 end of quarter lead.

In the second quarter the Bulldogs would give a bit more of a push. Senior wide receiver Robert Williams scored his first touchdown of the season on a 48 yard bomb from starting quarterback Dominic Ruelas. Sierra Linda hung in and went into the half trailing 35-21.

“I think the team did very strong against Desert Edge. A few mistakes here and there preventing us from scoring and stopping them more but like I said a very strong performance against a champion Desert Edge team.”, said Williams.

The team came out of the half with the same intensity. The Bulldogs would hold the Scorpions to one touchdown in the quarter. They would also score a touchdown themselves with Toshaun Thomas earning his third touchdown of the day. They would end the quarter down 42-28.

In the fourth quarter the Scorpions would run away with the game. The Bulldogs defense struggled to stop the run game of Desert Edge. Sierra Linda would allow the Scorpions to score three touchdowns and a safety (two points). Toshaun Thomas would end the game with four touchdowns.

“We played a great first half and if we would’ve applied that all game we would’ve won. But we gave them the best of Sierra Linda.”, said Thomas.

The Bulldogs next game is away against Agua Fria (3-3) on Friday October 9th at 7 pm.
