Phoenix Suns Season Overview

Daniel Albanese, Staff Writer

The Phoenix Suns season seemed to be going just ok in the beginning of the season, taking big games against San Antonio and Golden State. The team seemed like they would have playoff potential. However the Suns finished below .500 and missed the playoffs for 5th straight year with a record of 39-43.

The Suns went into the season with a three- guard lineup including Eric Bledsoe, Goran Dragic and Isaiah Thomas. The team did well with the system but the players were unhappy because of unequal play time.

At the February 19th trade deadline the Suns traded Goran Dragic to the Miami Heat and Isaiah Thomas to the Boston Celtics. The Suns received Brandon Knight, Marcus Thornton and Danny Granger. From that point on the Suns did not play as a team.

After the trade deadline the Suns went 10-18 battling with injuries from Brandon Knight (ankle), Alex Len (ankle). The Suns second half performance was hard to watch.

Off the court, the Suns Players made the news in a negative way. On April 22, the Morris twins were charged with assault from an incident in January. The brothers are due to appear in court on May 7. This puts their future with the suns in jeopardy.

At the June 25th NBA Draft the Suns will get a decent pick. The Suns are in the draft lottery and have a 0.6% chance of obtaining first pick but will likely get the 13th pick.

The Suns have many options in the draft. They can look towards a big man in (Wisconsin C/PF) Frank Kaminsky or a shooter in Sam Dekker (SF Wisconsin). A Shooting guard or point guard is not completely out of question either as the suns need shooting threats.
