Have you ever imagined how it feels to be the first generation in your family to graduate high school and go to college?  Here on our campus I was able to track down two students that are able to make history in their families, Maria Cruza and Nubia Ugarte.

What are your parents thoughts or reactions on you being the first to graduate high school?

“I didn’t quite grow up with a father figure, but my mother told me to keep pushing myself and go to college after high school”

What are your plans after graduating high school?

“I am going to NAU (Northern Arizona University) to get a masters in Business & Economics and to minor in Global Economics.  I am aiming to get a masters degree”

What are your own thoughts about finishing high school?

“I loved high school, I cant wait to finish high school”

What are your parents thoughts or reactions on you being the first to graduate high school?

They feel proud because they came from Mexico to better our lifes and make sure we’re successful and graduating high school is the first step to being successful.”

What are your own thoughts about finishing high school?

It’s bitter sweet but really sad because I’m going to miss everyone and all the experiences but really exciting because its a new chapter in my life.”

What are your plans after graduating high school?

To attend NAU (Northern Arizona University) and pursue a BSN (Bachelors of Science in Nursing).”
