Many classic horror icons and many other terrifying supernatural creatures share similar traits such as pale skin, dark eyes, stretched faces, razor sharp teeth and many other features. These images are marked in the human mind to cause a life long fear.

There are innumerable amount of things that frightens humans instinctively. The fear is natural but does not need to be assisted in order to be afraid although not everyone believes this to be true.

“It’s just how we’re made. When we see something scary we don’t like or is too different, we fear it.” said SLHS sophomore Don Mays.

“Some people describe it as a creepy way that of course you’ll be afraid of it but if you think of a pale face with pink hair it’s not going to look as scary.”, said SLHS sophomore Elena Payares.

These fears normally come from dark times in the past when lightning could mean electrocution shock or the burning of your home, predators or hunters could be hiding in the dark or even a spider or snake bite could mean certain death.

“Normal human beings are afraid of death; pale faces are a sign of ailment or all kinds of predators.” said SLHS sophomore Alisia Hillman.

The question you have to ask yourself is this: What happened deep in the hidden eras before history began that could effect the entire nation to give everyone a great, natural and lasting fear of the unknown such as the boogeyman, slender man, etc.
