Recently the Tolleson Union High School District recognized Ms. Amanda Ramirez as Employee of the Month. At a TUHSD board meeting she was recognized in front of family and friends for dynamic leadership of the SLHS English department.

She was nominated for the award by her fellow English teacher Ms. Belanger.

1.) Is this your first time getting employee of the month?

“Yes! “However, for the first time in TUHSD history has a mother and daughter won back to back. My mom won in December, myself in January pretty cool.”

2.) What are your emotions towards this?

“It was a surprise, I was not expecting it all. When I first read my letter I was trying to not cry during my class.”

3.) Do you feel like you deserve this award?

“I have earned the award, but I do not do what I do to be acknowledged. I do everything I do to help the kids and school.”

4.) How do you manage your time?

“Oddly I am one of those people who the more I have to do the better! I come to school early and leave around 4-4:30 each day to make sure that I have lessons planned, papers graded, and I typically spend some time on evenings and weekends grading as well.”

5.) What do you do on your spare time?

“Spare time…what spare time. I like to hike, spend time with my boyfriend usually hiking or doing something outside, I love movies, and reading.”

6.) In one word describe how you think students feel about you?

“Energetic, enthusiastic, intelligent, inspiring” (I asked my kids who were near me…sorry I cheated).
