On April 29, 2015 rapper YG came out to Arizona due to the power of social media. On Friday April 24th sadness fell upon Sierra Linda high school and the community after three junior SLHS cheerleaders were in a tragic car accident. One of the girls Jasmine Hardy was in critical condition, Taijanique Turner has recovered well while in the hospital, and Zakiyyah Elzy was put on life support and sadly passed away Tuesday night.

Friends and family of Elzy made her last wish come true and got the attention of her favorite rapper YG to come to Arizona to visit her family. They used the hashtags #KIAGANG and #YGtoAZ. Even strangers that were connected to the story through social media were posting it on their personal pages. This was all possible due to the school coming together as a family and using the effectiveness of social networks.

Family couldn’t believe that they were able to make it happen for Elzy.

According to Channel 12 News Elzy’s aunt, Cynthia Fuller said, “I guess singers/rappers have hearts too, right?”

Friends and family of Elzy were posting on all the social media networks trying to get YGs attention. By blowing up his twitter page and even by getting the local radio station Power 98.3 involved they made it all possible.

“Everybody was hitting me on my Twitter — all her people; all her friends,” said YG.

To support the families financially a Gofundme page was started for the girls by cheer coach Adelina Franciotti. The page has raised over $ 8,300 exceeding the goal of $7,500.
