It’s another year at Sierra Linda and new teachers have joined the Bulldog nation. All these teachers showed excitement in the interviews and were more than happy to be a part of the school. These 7 teachers were happy to let us know why they love teaching.

Ms. Quezada

Ms. Quezada (English) Favorite book: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Q: Is this your first time teaching high school and if so how are you enjoying it so far?

“I’ve been teaching English Education for about 30 years now.  I’ve taught adult ESL and academic classes in Los Angeles and in China, reading at the community college level, and writing at the University of Arizona.  Can you tell I really like teaching?”

Q: What do you enjoy most about teaching?

“Helping students get a vision about their great potential and helping them enjoy learning”

Q: What brought you to sierra Linda?

“I was looking to teach ESL in a local school.  Sierra Linda had an opening.  I’m glad I’m here.  I heard from another teacher that it is a great place to work at”

Ms. Tous (English) Favorite book: Harry Potter series

Q: Is this your first time teaching high school and if so how is it?

Yes and I’m loving it I taught middle school before this and this is much better”

Q: What is your favorite part about teaching?

“I love the interaction with the kids and creating friendships and teaching life lessons”

Q: How long do you see yourself teaching?

“5-6 years probably, afterwards I would like to become a guidance counselor”

Ms. Chavez (Biology) Favorite movie: Breakfast Club

Q: How long have you been a teacher?

” 10 years and I’m loving it at Sierra Linda so far”

Q: What is one of the difficulties of being a teacher?

“The politics of teaching. How you’re told to teach and dealing with things like that”

Q: How long do you see yourself teaching?

“I’m not sure. As long as I see I’m helping these kids and making a difference I’ll stay teaching.

Q: How long have you been teaching?

“I’ve been teaching for 8 years I moved here from New Jersey

Q: What’s one difficulty of being a teacher?

“Politics”

Q: What is the most important part of teaching in your opinion?

“Having an impact on the kids and future generations”

Ms. Vaughan (English) Favorite movie: Lord of The Rings series

Q:  How long have you been teaching and what brought you to Sierra Linda?

“I’ve for about 18 years and I kept hearing great things that I just had to check it out”

Q: How long do you see yourself being a teacher?

“As long as they let me!”

Q: What is a great thing about teaching?

“Making connections with students”

Mr. Galleti (Band) Favorite book: The Dark Knight Returns

Q: Is this your first year teaching high school?

“Yes it is and it’s really fun and great”

Q: What has been the hardest part of teaching so far?

“Day 1 getting set up and just the little things”

Q: What to you is an important part of teaching?

“Loving the kids. The kids are great especially when they learn a song and hearing that.

Ms. Helmer (Dance) Favorite movie: Labyrinth

Q: How long have you been teaching and what made you join Sierra Linda?

“I’ve taught for 7 years and my boyfriend got a promotion and we moved here from California

Q: What have you enjoyed most about Sierra Linda?

“The spirit here is great and I love helping the kids grow as a person

Q: What has been a difficulty of teaching?

Not having enough money to fund field trips for the kids”
